There are a few things I love about Florida summer:  tourist season is over, we’ve got fish, and mango season is in full-swing!

Mango Mania 2015

Today is my last day as a Mango Mania champion.  Tomorrow a new winner will be crowned, and I’m sorry I won’t be there to pass the urn.  I’m missing out some incredible mango dishes, too.  

Mango Roll-ups

Fruit roll-ups were a lunchbox staple when I was growing up (along with pudding cups, cheetos, and capri-suns).  The 80s really showed us how fun and processed kid food could be.   I ate my fair share, despite my mother’s ban on high-fructose corn syrup.

Green Mango Salad

I eat a lot of green papaya salad at my neighborhood Thai restaurant.  The owner jokes that the Thai don’t wait for fruit to be ripe.  If they’re hungry, they eat it.  And they know how to make it taste incredible.

Dragon’s Punch

Mango, the world’s favorite fruit, casts a shadow on other fruit that ripen at the same time.  Since our fruit baskets are overflowing, I made a tropical punch to showcase some of the others.

Mango Key Lime Daiquiri

I make mango smoothies all year, but a mango daiquiri is pure vacation.   Especially after a long day on the boat, just before my nap in the hammock.
